This is not going to be a typical “Hey, I’m Back” post.
I’ve tackled this post a ton of different ways…and all seemed like complete shit. There are a lot of questions that need answered. There is a lot of things that have happened since I last posted. There is a lot of new stuff going on that I have been hush-hush about. I think they way to tackle the lull in my posts is in a Q/A format.
Where the Hell have you been?
I’ve been here all along. I got into a terrible slump. I haven’t left Central PA and even though I went dark online for a good while, I was still lurking.
What the Hell happened?
A confluence of events and situations happened that lead to me going dark. First, I wrote a post on living with Depression as a designer in which I detailed a good bit of my own personal issues dealing with depression and being bi-polar. The response I had from that post was fantastic, but it churned up some major thoughts and feeling within me that I had to deal with. Personally, I was teetering on the edge of sanity due to things in my personal and professional life. I took on some projects and eventually had to pass them along to others. I made a very necessary change and left PPO&S. In regards to AIGA, after the student portfolio we had two more big speakers in town, Ben Jenkins and Yomar Augusto which were huge successes but wiped me out after having so many events back to back to back. When it came time to write, I honestly felt drained and burnt out.
What are you doing now?
First off, I took time for myself and got myself in a better place mentally. I spent a lot of time reevaluating things in my life and decided a new direction was needed. Azrael Group has shifted gears and introduced new processes that have streamlined business. Also, there has been a major shift towards including product development as a core competencies. In essence, I’m more focused than ever before. Also, I recently joined Harrisburg University of Science & Technology as their creative director. With AIGA Central PA, I came back from the national leadership retreat in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was incredibly reenergized after meeting and hanging out with my colleagues from the other chapters. Our own board brought on four new fantastic additions to the chapter leadership team and we’ve planned out the rest of 2015’s events. More importantly, I have taken time to really think about where I am at in life and what I want to do and what makes me happy.
So what different about the AG site?
I reverted back to an old theme I was using before and I am currently working on customizing a new one with more photos and work examples. The site is evolving. It’s going to include a lot more personal posts as well as more direct process posts as well. I have a much clearer direction on what I want to achieve from my site’s blog. I want to be more open and also not worry about putting on a façade. In essence, I want to be me.
So what can I expect from the “new” AG site?
A lot more photos, more categorized posts so if you just want the web and design stuff, you can find those posts pretty easily but if you want to hear other things going on with me, you can find the personal posts as well. You can also expect to see my shop open up on Society6 and Etsy. Lastly, I’ll be doing a lot of different experiments….stuff that I have wanted to do with type, illustration and photography that will showcased on the new theme coming out.
Is Azrael Group still taking on clients?
Yes, Azrael Group is still accepting proposals and contracts.
When will the store come out?
Friday, September 4th. It’s been a long time coming.
Are you going to keep with blogging?
Definitely, I have lost time to make up for it. At least once a week for sure.
